Known as the party island in all of Greece, Mykonos is sure to give you a great nightlife experience! But there is so much to explore in Mykonos!
This small guide will show you how to spend 2 days in Mykonos from day trips to nightlife.
Though 2 days in Mykonos seems like a short time, I believe if you plan carefully and continue reading, you will make the most of Mykonos in 2 days!
What To Know Before You Go
Language – Greek is the official language in Greece. However, English is often spoken especially in touristy areas like Mykonos.
Currency – Greece’s currency is Euros (EUR).
1 USD~ .93 EUR
Climate- The weather in Mykonos is known for its windy gusts. From June through September the average high is 78ºF and it is always and I mean always windy year round. From December to late March the average temperature is 61ºF with February being the coldest month of the year with an average low temperature of 47ºF.
Safety- Mykonos is a popular tourist destination in Greece, which is relatively safe. However, pickpocketing is a major issue all over Europe. I would recommend keeping an eye on your belongings at all times, especially phones and purses when at clubs or walking around tourist areas.
Daily Budget- Mykonos is expensive compared to Athens or other underrated Greek islands. If you’re lucky your hotel can offer breakfast, otherwise I suggest spending around 50€ a day on food and drinks. Breakfast and lunch prices are cheaper (~10€ – 15€) compared to dinner prices (25-35€). If you want to upgrade to more comfortable accommodations I would add another 200/500€ per day.
How to get to Mykonos from Athens (and vice versa)
The easiest way to get to Mykonos from Athens is by ferry. Usually, the ferry ride is a 2.5-hour ride; however, depending on which ferry company and time you choose the distance time can be up to 5.5 hours. The two major ports in Athens are Rafina and Piraeus Port where you will usually catch the ferry to Tourlos Port, the only major port in Mykonos. Piraeus Port is closer to Athens and busier, Rafina on the other hand is a bit farther and less crowded. The ferry ride from Athens to Mykonos can be smooth or most often than not very choppy due to the high wind gusts. You should buy your ferry ticket beforehand, especially during the summer, as they may get full. Don’t get me started on trying to get on the ferry, that’s a hassle in itself! The ticket price can vary depending on how long you want your trip to be, you can purchase ferry tickets here.
How to Spend 2 Days in Mykonos, Greece
Day 1- Exploring Mykonos
Little Venice
Considered one of Mykonos most charming and popular neighborhoods, little Venice sits right on the edge of the Aegean Sea with its colorful picturesque little houses. Little Venice is a picture-perfect spot! I HIGHLY recommend coming here to watch the sunset. You can grab dinner or a drink at one of the restaurants facing the ocean and enjoy the spectacular views.
With many restaurants, bars, shops, and Instagrammable spots Little Venice is sure to make you fall in love with Mykonos and its quintessential charm!
Chora (Town of Mykonos)
The picturesque and most recognizable neighborhood in all of Mykonos is Chora! With its white small buildings, bright blue wooden doors, and narrow labyrinth streets, Chora is the best place to enjoy an afternoon stroll. I highly recommend getting lost in the streets of Chora where you can find restaurants, cafes, local shops with clothing and jewelry, and even small catholic churches. The charming little neighborhood of Chora makes for the perfect Instagram picture, though do keep in mind the residents that live there.
The Windmills
The iconic windmills overlooking Little Venice and the neighborhood of Chora are Mykonos’ most famous landmarks. These windmills date back to the 16th century and were once used to grind grain with their wind power. There were 16 windmills in operation and with Mykonos’ strong winds, these windmills were operated solemnly by wind. Though they have been renovated and even converted into a museum (insert museum here), they represent Mykonos’s historic past and make for a spectacular picture today. I highly recommend watching the sunset from here!

The island of Delos has a lot to offer, and is known as the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo! Final Thoughts
Known as the life of the party island, Mykonos sure does live up to its reputation! However, Mykonos has so much to offer that isn’t just nightlife, with many beaches, restaurants, and neighboring islands to check out Mykonos is a great 2 day trip. I only spent 2 days in Mykonos and thought I saw just about everything in one day. In terms of relaxing and experiencing more of the nightlife, I would suggest staying couple more nights. Just remember that it is always windy there so plan accordingly for outfits in the summer months Mykonos gets very busy and can be difficult to get around the island. Overall, 2 days in Mykonos is all you need to get a feel of the island and check it off your bucket list!
I hope these short 2 days in Mykonos itinerary helped plan and make the most of your trip!
I’ve always wanted to go!! Thank you for the recommendations 🙂
